Caleufu River is considered the best fishing spot in central Patagonia. Situated at one hour drive from the San Carlos de Bariloche airport, it offers over 50 kilometers of non public access to an amazing collection of runs, pools and flats where brown & rainbow trout are available in amazing numbers. The river is divided in the mountainous section where fish average around 2 to 5 lbs, and a teppe section on the Pampa de Alicura where the river turns into a Delta which usually hosts browns from the Alicura lake, where 5-10lb range trout can be found. Access is only available through private lodge and the daily programs are carried out through river rafting (low difficulty grade I or II). Program 2 - Manso River Region (Lakes Fonk-Hess). Located 50 Km from San Carlos de Bariloche City, inside the Nahuel Huapi national Park, the Tronador Glacier gives birth to the Manso river which feeds one of Patagonia's richest fishing ecosystems. Light fishing pressure make for excellent results in the area. The region includes many options: you can fish any of the different sections of the Rio Manso, which runs for 20 miles , or fish the very productive weed beds of Lake Hess & Fonk, being the latter only available after a heavy 4X4 trip, using float tubes, rubber boats or go by skiff to access a wide variety of untouched areas. You'll find outstanding fishing for Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout. The fish average around 3 to 5 lbs, with the occasional fish in the 8 to 10 lb range. The wide variety of waters little fishing pressure which, combined with the spectacular scenery of Mount Tronador and Lago Hess, will make for an unforgettable experience.
